The Chaumer is an absolute delight for anyone looking to enjoy a traditional tea room. The beautiful and elegant decor creates a warm and inviting atmosphere that transports you back in time to a bygone era. The service is exceptional, with the staff being attentive and friendly, ensuring that your experience is both enjoyable and relaxing. Unfortunately, I recently heard that The Chaumer will be closing soon, which is truly disappointing news. It is a shame to lose such a wonderful establishment that offers a unique and memorable experience for its guests.
The Edinburgh author, Alexander McCall Smith said; “The Chaumer is Edinburgh distilled: Friendship, conversation, wonderful surroundings and exceptional food and coffee”.
It certainly has intrigued us. Its location on Queen Street means possibly a special journey in that direction but luckily today was one of those rare occasions that we happened to be passing by.
We instantly liked the charming interior which is unlike your usual “rustic” café. It is like a French café from several decades ago.
We ordered a Flat White, a Macchiato and a slice of chocolate cake. The coffees were not that special; just 2 different sized milky coffees but the chocolate cake; it was probably one of the best chocolate cakes we’ve had in Edinburgh.
Would we go again; yes we would and probably for lunch. Their menu is small and changes daily which hopefully means fresh cooking and baking each day.
Lovely to finally have a cuppa here. Great customer service and the girl serving was just amazing. Will surely be visiting this place again and nice to see a good gem on queen's street.
